Leaving the Country: Hurry Up and Wait!

Updated: Sep 7, 2021

Ready, set, oh wait.... I still don't have my passport! My idea of 7 to 10 business days t0 process is clearly different from the Italian consulate.

The last item on my to do list as I prepare to leave the good 'ol USA for a different kind of life, is to get my approved visa for an extended stay in Italy.

Processing time is 7 to 10 business days and if you leave us with a prepaid overnight envelope, you should have it before your departure date, no problem!

Somehow, the small voice in my head saying "this is risky, are you sure?" was ignored. I heard what I wanted to hear and that was I would get my visa and passport back in time for my original departure date. I threw caution to the wind and left my passport at the Italian Consulate in Chicago on August 10th!

Original Departure Date.....Come and Gone!

Now a month later, as my rescheduled flights are also in the past, I ponder when I might actually get to go live the life of my dreams! I have had moments of anger, sadness, desperation and depression. I've wanted to sleep the day away until I receive the notification from FedEx that my passport is on the way or drink the night away so I wouldn't think about where I wasn't. None of this makes me feel better and it certainly doesn't change my circumstances. I keep reminding myself that I am always right where I'm supposed to be! Everything happens for my highest good.....right?!

The truth is I AM LOVED! I have a place to stay, food and water, tons of support and the love of my family and friends. I am ok and right where I'm supposed to be for this moment. The dream is in the making and I'm ready when the Universe decides Italy is ready for me :)
